Expert Tips for Exporting to the Netherlands

As one of most open economies in the world to do business in, the Netherlands have enjoyed a long and successful trade history with the UK. However, the Netherlands is also one of the most competitive places in the world for businesses, so you need to be well prepared. We asked the specialists supporting British companies who are exporting to the Netherlands for their top tips to businesses looking to access the market…

“I think a key website to look at which is a great source of information is business.gov.nl which is made by the Dutch ministry of economic affairs. There is an English version available which provides a lot of information. It’s partly about how to set up and run a business but also offers answers to further technical questions such as licenses and regulations you night need for specific products. There is also a telephone number against each relevant local agency which can offer further information.”

Juliette Kuiken, Senior Trade Adviser, Department for International Trade Benelux (DIT)

“Consider the Netherlands as the start to your European launch! The Netherlands isn’t just an interesting market in its own right, it is also your ideal market to access the rest of Europe. The companies within the Netherlands often have very good links with lots of countries in continental Europe. The Netherlands have a very high dominance on international sales so if you find the right business partner in the Netherlands, they may not only be a good distribution network to the Netherlands market but may also give you access to other markets which may not be as easy to tap into.”
