The Department for International Trade (DIT) works closely with partners throughout Yorkshire and the Humber to offer consolidated support to businesses. Meet Nicola Thomis from How’s Business, the Growth Hub for York, North Yorkshire and East Riding, who explains how their activity can benefit local companies.
How’s Business, the Growth Hub for York, North Yorkshire and East Riding, is here to help business find their way through the complicated support landscape. With a newly revised offering, a revamped website and a team of face-to-face Growth Managers now in post, the Growth Hub is now very clearly open for business.
The Growth Hub services are provided digitally, via telephone and face-to-face, so businesses can get the right support in a way that’s convenient for them. Services are all free to access, Government backed but impartial and independent. Perhaps most importantly of all, the Growth Hub has something to offer businesses of all sizes, from those looking to get started, to established businesses wanting to plan for growth, or even businesses looking to move into the region. There’s something for everyone. If the Growth Hub people aren’t able to help, they’ll know who to talk to.
The Growth Hub website is the perfect place for anyone looking for information on how to start or improve their business. It offers a mix of articles and eBooks, information on funding, as well as a large calendar of local networking events in the region and ways to get in touch. Anyone with an event that they would like to list is welcome to get in touch.
Growth Managers are available to offer expert support and can introduce businesses to the range of relevant resources around. They’ll act as a ‘critical friend’ examining where the business is now, and where it could focus for the future. The Growth Manager role is distinct from the roles of advisers in local authority areas in that the Growth Managers can work on any aspect of a business, from writing a strategic marketing plan, helping them launch a new product, staffing issues, re-structures, how to turn failing businesses around, even how to close down a business properly once it has ceased trading. The Growth Managers operate across the regions of Hambleton, Richmond, Ryedale and Scarborough, working closely with colleagues in local authorities where appropriate.
A telephone support service is also available, matching businesses to sources of funding. This service is available to all businesses across the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding region. Businesses who would like to get in touch to find out what support they might be eligible for can contact the Growth Hub on 01609 797471.
The Growth Hub is Government-backed, completely independent, and works with support providers across the region. All our services are free to access for businesses in the area. If you’d like to find out more about how they can help, please email email@example.com or visit howsbusiness.org.
